As Director of Strategic Planning for the Indrani’s Light Foundation (ILF), Andrea contributes to the organization’s mission to eradicate gender-based violence, also one of the United Nation’s 8 Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) for 2015.

She recently took part in learning journeys to New Delhi, India, and Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, for a week of scoping and research. These countries have been selected as the focus of the ILF’s international efforts in a 3-year project in partnership with Population Services International and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Domestically, Andrea directs marketing and implementation of the Foundation’s leadership training program, ‘Live a Brighter Life: An Empowerment Program for Living’ which is reaching thousands of listeners for free under a Creative Commons license at www.liveabrighterlife.eventbrite.com. Based on proven social science principles, the program has become highly-sought after as a proven behavior change tool.

In the short term, Andrea and Indrani will also invest extensively in the Train the Trainer workshop for ‘Live a Brighter Life.’ The goal here will be to certify trainers to deliver the curriculum to shelters across North America. The final ILF certification will take the form of a Vi-Athlon – an innovative five-part event to inspire increased compassion, community activism and awareness of domestic violence. Under the ‘Violets not Violence’ publicity campaign, the Vi-Athlon will also serve as a fundraising program for ILF.

“When Andrea told me she wanted to join my Foundation as her philanthropic contribution to our cause, AND as her gift on my 60th birthday, I cried. She was there at the beginning when this was all just an idea, and I never, ever, ever dared to imagine this day would be possible.” –Indrani Goradia, Founder, Indrani’s Light Foundation
